The Union Christian Association studied the requirements, lack of facilities, funding and other problems faced by Corporation Schools in Chennai and selected the Corporation Middle School in Nungambakkam to be our Foster School.
The Corporation Middle School, Jayalaxmipuram, Nungambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu has classes from 1 to 8 and a total strength of 140 students with only 4 teachers to teach them. Of the 4 teachers, one is the Headmistress of the school. The school had four classrooms, which were shared by students from all classes. Each classroom housed 2 classes, where a single teacher conducted lessons simultaneously. The students of Classes 1 to 6 did not have desks and benches, and had to study seated on the floor. There was no library or laboratories. The classes did not have even fans or lights. The classrooms were in a dilapidated condition with cracked walls and asbestos roofs.
With generous donations from the parents of our students, and a bulk of the contributions coming from the Association, UCA constructed a building for this school and provided the amenities needed. UCA has also appointed the services of twoadditional teachers to the Corporation Middle School. The school is now better equipped to provide a good education for the students. The Union Christian Association is proud to have played a part in bringing education and happiness to the staff and students of the Corporation Middle School.
